Italian Margarita Cocktail Recipe

A few years ago, on a road trip from Texas to Tennessee, we stopped for dinner and noticed something called an Italian Margarita on the menu, so I ordered one to share. And then another. Soon after, I experimented at home until I re-created a version of the yummy concoction that we like the best. Margarita Thursday, as they’re sometimes known in my house, often feature this Italian Margarita Cocktail Recipe.

I like drinking these margaritas out of a fancy margarita glass with sugar on the rim, but sometimes I use mason jar glasses with straws (pictured above). You can also double or triple the recipe, rather than making one at a time.

Ingredients

  • 1 shot tequila
  • 1 shot amaretto
  • 1/2 shot triple sec
  • 3/4 cup sweet and sour mix
  • 1/4 fresh orange
  • 1/4 fresh lime
  • sugar

Instructions

  • Pour a little water in a bowl or on a plate
  • Put sugar in a separate bowl or on a separate plate
  • Dip the rim of a glass in the water and swirl; then dip it in the sugar and swirl
  • In a separate container (I like to use a protein mix shaker); fill with 1 cup or so of ice.
  • Add the liquor and sweet and sour mix
  • Wash and then cut an orange and a lime into quarters; then squeeze the juice of one orange quarter into the shaker and then the juice of one lime quarter into the shaker.
  • Close the lid and shake the mixture well.
  • Pour into the sugar rimmed glass. Cheers!
  • Alternatively, you can skip the sugar rim and use a mason gar with a straw. You can also double or triple the recipe and make a small pitcher to share. 🙂

This margarita is too good! And if you’ve ever had the Italian margarita at Olive Garden, it tastes just like it (maybe a little better).
