Adobe Verde in Gruene, Texas

Earlier this month, we visited Adobe Verde, located just off the Guadalupe River in historic Gruene, Texas.

The weather was perfect, so we sat on the patio. The chips and salsa were a little bland, but we didn’t care — between the weather, the live music and the delicious pitcher of margaritas, we were happy!

My daughter, who attends Texas State University, joined us. She ordered the Sizzling Veggie Skillet, with shrimp added. She said the vegetables and shrimp were delicious and seasoned well — she’d order it again.

A friend ordered the Tampiqueño Cancun (a diced beef fajita topped with onion, cilantro, salsa quemada and melted jack cheese served with one cheese enchilada, rice, beans, guacamole, lettuce and tomato). He enjoyed it, cleaning his plate.

I ordered a cup of tortilla soup/chicken fajita taco combo. The soup, made from scratch daily according to their menu and website, was delicious. I’d go back just to order the soup (and analyze it closer to see how I could recreate it at home). The taco was bland, but I didn’t mind because I loved the soup (and margaritas) so much.

Afterward, we walked over to Gruene Hall, the oldest dance hall in Texas, and visited several souvenir shops, where we laughed ourselves silly.
